Membership Bundles, Pay by Phone, Personal Leaderboards and Tag Sale!

Friday, 7th August 2009

Our next update will add a number of new options for you.

A major addition to the store will be added with the forthcoming update, in the shape of Membership Bundles. These come in three value for money packages, the Wayfarer, Trailrunner, and the ultimate Pioneer.

Each bundle contains a number of months membership along with key items from Doc's Outfitters. The Pioneer bundle is however unique, as it is a lifetime membership to The Hunter, providing you with all existing and all future content!

Additionally, the next update will bring with it the option to pay by phone. We are aware some of you do not have access to a credit card or a paypal account, so this will be particularly welcomed by those players who would prefer to pay by phone.

Personal Leaderboards will be a new feature to the statistics page. Functioning much like the existing leaderboards, the personalized version will display only your kills, making it easy to recall your best hunts and greatest trophy animals.

Finally, in our next update we will be slashing prices on licences - for a limited period only! Many guests enjoy buying the occasional licence to allow them to hunt species such as Roosevelt Elk or Coyote. For a limited time we'll be selling licences at half price! Great value, so don't miss out.

The Bow, Coyote and more...

Saturday, 4th July 2009

Work on the next update is progressing well so it's time for a few more details of what will be added to theHunter next.

The biggest addition to many hunters will be the compound bow. The game takes a whole new direction when you're out in the field with one of these. Stealth is critical, getting in close is the only way to make your shot count. The payback for this is enormous however, the animals close up reveal their true beauty, and the moment the arrow is released from the bow is rewarding on a whole new level. Visit the screenshots page to see the bow in action.

In our eyes such a great addition always demanded an arrival that was bigger and better than anything before, so the Win A Bow competition will start next week. It's open to everyone and not only rewards the top ten competitors with the bow as a prize, but also gives them them exclusive use of the bow for its first weekend in the game.

The bow won't be the only new item in Doc's Outfitters, as we're also adding a backpack. This allows the hunter to take more equipment into the EHR. So for anyone who believes more is better, buy this, pack it full and head out.

Whitehart Island is already a home for many species, but with the next update the first vermin enter the world of theHunter. Coyote have established a foothold on the island and with them comes a new expert, Dixie "Jazz" West. She's a fiery redhead who doesn't like the coyote, and is ready with missions and competitions to help make the most of your coyote hunting.

There are many other additions and improvements across both the client and the social network; new animations for many of the animals, new tracking clue types, new ways for the experts to communicate with hunters in the client, new ways for players to communicate with each other in the client, and improvements to skills, messages and statistics pages.

Animal improvements, Clothing and More

Friday, 12th June 2009

With a busy week of updates behind us we're pleased to announce that there's more coming to theHunter very soon. The first of the upcoming improvements incorporates a wealth of changes to the animals of Whitehart Island. These include new models for Mule and Whitetail bucks and an extensive new antler system for all the antlered species. You can also expect to see changes in animal behaviour with improved AI and pathfinding enabling animals to flee more intelligently, and gunshot wounds will now be visible.

We've also taken a look at the beginning of the game which many players have found difficult. Hunting in the realistic environment of theHunter can certainly be daunting until you learn a few things, so we will introduce a new tutorial mission which should ensure the first hunt is a much more positive experience. We will continue to evaluate the best way to help players in the early game, and make changes and additions as we move forward to ensure everyone can enjoy theHunter.

Finally we're pleased to announce that we will soon be launching our first purchasable clothing items. The Boone & Crockett range will offer a variety of bonuses to help take your hunting to the next level. As part of the clothing launch there will also be a new addition to the 'Go Hunting' page, a clothing screen via which you can select which clothing to wear for your hunt.

Hall of Fame

Thursday, 26th March 2009

Season One has come to a close! It's been a memorable first season in the EHR... What's that? You had no idea we had seasons and that the first was coming to an end?
What am I, the hired help around here?

Well listen, it's all to play for in Season Two - starting with a great Spring Turkey competition!

And you hunters who did yourselves proud in Season One, I'm pleased to announce the Hall of Fame.
Top the Leaderboards come the end of a season and you'll be in. Simple as that, and a great honor to have your picture alongside mine on theHunter website.

Sadly, my scores don't count (something to do with 'conflict of interest' whatever that is) but nevertheless, getting yourself into the Hall of Fame means you're somewhere near my standards. Of hunting, if not of helping.

Good luck with that.

Old Age

Wednesday, 11th March 2009

Maybe I'm past my best in some regards. Can't run as fast perhaps. A little grey hair here and there. Fuse shorter some tell me.

Running never made it easier in harvesting a Whitetail though. And I reckon grey is like camo to a deer.

And when it comes to stalking, in the EHR, I'm the most patient man on this earth...

That enough wisdom for you?

Good.

Now these youngsters, they like their modern technology, so here's some links for you kids, and kids at heart. Latest previews of our reserve. Take your time and have a read.

A tale of a store and some server minions

Thursday, 19th February 2009

I hear there's a store now open. That's great. Means I don't have to lend so much of my own stuff to you guys in order so I can hunt for free.

Still, even those of you not as helpful as me get the same licences for only $44.99 for 15 months. Three bucks a month!
Man, if you guys don't stop bugging me I think I might take that offer up myself before it's gone.
Only joking – you know I love to help... Come see me anytime...

Which reminds me, next you'll wanna be hearing about WHEN exactly you can come see me. When you can get into the EHR, that is.
Well a whole bunch of you already can of course (always great to see new faces, yadda yadda...)
The people who do this stuff are sending out more invites every day. So if you've registered you'll get invited very soon, and if you haven't registered, you have to be in it to erm... Well just register, you know?

Apparently the 12 year old who's in charge tells me there needs to be something called a server in place before he can invite more people. Something like that. So I guess he's there with his minions building these servers and making sure they work before more people are invited?

Don't worry, I'll be helpful and tell him to go faster.

Tip of the Week: I'm always talking about hunting, never about pack animals. So when I say 'mule' you know what I mean, right!?

Still Hunting

Tuesday, 6th January 2009

Wherever you stand, the EHR is a beautiful place. I'm not one for fancy words now, but you just wait till you take a look around.

Been asked to give you some advice this week on terrain in the EHR.

Thing is, I know this place real well, but when you first get a license I can see how you might get lost. The EHR is a big place! So here're a few tips for navigation.

Check your GPS regular and don't stray too far from your lodge at first. Take it slow. Walk, don't run. Some call this 'still hunting', but whatever you wanna call it, master this first. That's my advice.

It's very early season in the EHR, in my experience one of the best times to bag a large buck. They're busy looking for the first does coming into heat and marking out their territory. Deer estrous and urine work real well during this time, for obvious reasons I hope.

As you're walking, keep focused, but spare a little time to memorize the trees and plants. It's a good way to find your way around, as the different species tend to appear close together. You might recognize a particular plant type and know that there's a good stand near-by (or maybe which way the lodge is.)

Still hunted a fantastic Whitetail yesterday. B&C 185.

Targeted the heart. Put him down where he stood.

Grouping into groups

Wednesday, 24th December 2008

They asked me to write about the 'social space element' of theHunter this week. Some 12 year old kid from 'theHunter online team'. So apparently I have to say 'the social space is integral to theHunter, it's all part of one coherent experience'. (Job done, pay day...)

Seems that this social space stuff is hot news though. From the internet...

Social spaces are everywhere and nowhere. They are a ubiquitous part of online life. A tool to meet new people. Posh blogs. A personal and interactive way of communicating. The grouping of individuals into groups.

"The grouping of individuals into groups"! What the hell?

What it means to me is that you can all look at pictures of the trophy bucks I have in my gallery. And send me questions that 'I'd be only too happy to answer'...

Been a few more hunters around the EHR recently. Good to see you're all actin' proper. Not that I'm keeping an eye on you, got my focus keen on the important things, if you see what I mean. Anyone one else out there think they have what it takes to outpoint Doc Locke, do drop in. Be only too happy to set things straight.

See you in the social space and reserve.

Tip of the week; once you've hunted, group into groups so you have people to boast to.

Butch Cassidy

Friday, 12th December 2008

I'm gonna keep this brief - why I agreed to do this blog I've no idea - as I'm going after that albino as soon as I can. Spotted it again yesterday, from a tower up in the hills. Can't track white-tails eh? Heh heh - you ever seen Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? I think I'm in that movie. Started to rain before I could get to the spot though, so even Lord Whatsisname would've waited for a better chance.

Wind was behind me too. No point spooking the creature; be a LONG time before it came back. But I know where it's at now...

We get a lot of rain some days in the EHR (that's the Evergreen Hunting Reserve) and then the wind can get real changeable. Have to keep an eye on it!

But there I go again giving you schooling. Anyone'd think that's what I'm here for.

Tip of the week? Do your hunter's ed!

Introductions...

Friday, 5th December 2008

My name's Colton Locke. Most people call me Doc.

The guys at The Hunter asked me to write a regular blog about the Evergreen Hunting Reserve, which is my favorite place to hunt right now.
So I guess I'm s'posed to be all helpful and tell you where to get equipment and where the best stands are and stuff like that.
Yeah right.
I can sell some of my spare stuff if you need, but it ain't 'Locke's Hunting Supplies' or nothing. You'll find me on your friends list.

With the Evergreen firearms season set to open soon, I expect to see some super bucks come from here! I saw a fantastic 12 point recently and a genuine albino down by the... well that would be telling.

Check the Trail Cam thing; it's a static camera from inside the reserve that takes a pic every 15 minutes or so. Never know what you might spot. Some awesome trophies any animal hunter would be proud of in here, if you know your stuff.
Which means I'll tag 'em first I reckon.

Hint for this week? Just make sure you don't shoot nothing you're not licensed to, and respect the rules of hunting. (You just might find my prices going up if you don't.)
