When you have successfully installed the game, it's time to start immersing yourself in the world of theHunter and you won't be going anywhere unless you know how to interact with the world.
Below are starting instructions on how to move around, use your weapons and gear and how to interact with the world. For a more extensive guide, please download the full Quickstart Guide PDF:

Move the mouse to move the camera around.

When you start, you will notice a GPS type device in your left hand called the HunterMate which looks like the this:

The HunterMate is used for all interactive activities in game such as tracking and confirming your kills, all with the click of a mouse button. All our animals leave tracks (footprints, droppings etc) on the ground, represented by actual and helpful colored arcs.

When you are close enough to use the HunterMate on a track, you will hear a loud beep. Point the HunterMate at the track and click the Left Mouse Button once and then once more to get an indication on the HunterMate where the animal was heading through a visual "V"-shape pointing out from your current position.
Make it a habit to follow the "V"-shape on your HunterMate and try to spot the next animal track. You will find yourself get closer and closer to the animal. Note that the arc will when activated turn in to a fully colored fan. You can also get a vocal call from an animal and you can again click the HunterMate to get an approximate location of the animal.

Once you have successfully killed an animal, confirm the kill by standing next to it with the HunterMate out and clicking the Left Mouse Button. This will save the kill information to your account.
While hunting is the main activity in theHunter, Evergreen Reserves offer a lot of entertainment.
theHunter is a simulator which means you will have to make an effort to be successful. Patience is your absolute best companion when hunting because the animals can spot, smell and hear you from long distances and you have to be sure not to make too much noise. Running for example is usually a clear giveaway for any animal in your vicinity. If you shoot your weapon you can be sure to spook anything in a very wide area so make sure to make every bullet count.
It's adviced that you place your shots close to the heart area of the animal; a clean shot. If you hit the heart the animal will be less inclined to run, if not die immediately which means less tracking of the animal after the shot (and less nastygrams from our resident NPC Doc!).
A great place to go for info, help and resources is our Official theHunter Forums where our very helpful and friendly community socializes and trades experiences. Here you can also speak directly to the developers of the game.
